  • This course requires online exam proctoring. Students should have access to a computer or device with the following system requirements: Windows 10 or 11, or, macOS 10.12 to 12+, or iOS 11+, internet access, microphone, and a webcam. Room scans will be required for remote proctored exams. Proctoring fees may be required.
    This class meets for an 8-week period during the full length semester. Students should expect an increased amount of work each week during the 8 weeks as compared to the same class offered in the full semester. Students are encouraged to work with an academic advisor to be sure their course load is balanced over the course of a given semester.
    This course requires the use of a computer or mobile device with internet access, a webcam, speakers and microphone.

CIS270: Essentials of Network and Information Security – 3 credits

Threats to security of information systems; responsibilities and basic tools for information security, including communication security, infrastructure security, organizational security and basic cryptography. Introduction to the language of network security and hardware, software and firmware components of an information security system for local, metropolitan, enterprise, and wide area networks. Helps prepare participants for the Comptia Security+ exam and the GIAC Security Essentials Certificate (GSEC). Prerequisites: A grade of C or better in BPC270 or CIS190 or CNT140AB or MST150++ or permission of Instructor.
