EMT104AB: Applied Practical Studies for Emergency Medical Technology – 0.5 credits

Simulation of actual emergency responses, with practical application of techniques and skills covered in EMT curricula. Scenario based learning applied to the techniques of emergency medical care in accordance with national and state curriculum. Practical application of anatomy, physiology, patient assessment, and treatment of medically or traumatically compromised patients, special hazards and medical operations. Also includes patient-assisted medication administration, semi-automatic external defibrillator and blood glucose monitoring. Students operate in outside, scenario based environments. NUR158: Nurse Assisting – 4.5 credits

Introduction to the role of the nursing assistant for clients across the wellness/illness continuum within the nurse assisting scope of practice.       Learn a variety of beneficial herbs and how they can assist in better health. Essential oils obtained
      from herbs will also be covered and shown how their aromatic vapors and topical application on the
      body can be very effective in combination with using herbs and spices. Students will have the
      opportunity to grow their own herb plants, and learn how to prepare herbal teas, salves, compresses,
      and more. Supply cost of $37 includes both the essential oil kit and an herb gardening kit.

      Fruit trees not only make landscape more beautiful, but provide delicious and healthy food during
      the year and shade during hot summer days. In today's economy, fruit trees are very necessary
      whether growing in containers (indoors/outdoors), or in the ground. This class will cover not only
      how to choose the right tree for the climate, but also how to best care for it to produce a large
      quantity of delicious, nutrient-rich fruit. Class will also cover: choosing tree varieties for desert
      climate, soil preparation, how to plant, optimal planting location, space required, nutritional needs,
      fertilizing times, watering, and more.

      ORGANIC GARDENING: SPROUTS & MICROGREENS
      This is a hands-on class where students will be growing sprouts and microgreens. Microgreens are
      certain vegetables and herbs harvested young that can be grown in containers either indoors or out.
      It is so convenient and easy to do that anyone can produce an abundant supply in small spaces all
      year round. Also, students will learn about the nutrient value of each microgreen and what is needed
      to know to be harvesting and enjoying these fast-growing, highly nutritious foods in as little as 7
      days. A booklet will be provided with a resource list for seeds and supplies. For questions on the
