The study of serial killers, mass murderers and their victims. Covers the fundamental principles of fingerprints, including the history of fingerprint classification, the biology of friction ridge skin, pattern analysis, comparison, and identification as well as their application in significant court cases. ART263: Figure Painting – 3 credits

Study of the nude and clothed figure in painting with special attention upon relevant color palettes, direct and indirect figurative painting techniques, and development of anatomical knowledge and compositional structure. Students will draw upon both historical and contemporary modes of depicting the figure to develop a personalized approach to figure painting. Live models, photographs, drawings, "Planes of the Head" models, and the studio skeleton will be used as the basis of projects. Note: Previous experience drawing from the live model recommended. Oil paint is the preferred medium but students may work in other painting media if they have previous experience. ART263 may be repeated for credit. Introduction to the foundations of the alcohol and drug abuse rehabilitation field. Emphasis on the roles and responsibilities of the addictions counselor, ethical issues, pharmacology, family dynamics, dual diagnosis, intervention techniques, self-help groups, levels of care, symptom identification, and conducting alcohol/drug histories. Further examination and refinement of communication and beginning professional counseling skills as they relate to the addicted client and family members. Overview of counseling theories including the application to addictions and substance use disorders groups. Recordkeeping skills and beginning counseling skills emphasized. Prerequisites: None.

ASD220: Family Dynamics and Addiction – 3 credits

Analysis of the impact of addictions on all the members of a family. Interviewing, assessment and therapeutic approaches particularly useful for these family members presented. Prerequisites: None.

ASD250: Group Interventions – 3 credits

Focus on group dynamics and group process as they relate to addictions and substance use disorders. Exploration of group developmental stages, family intervention models, various counseling approaches/techniques and their application to therapeutic, education and family groups. Capstone course for level two certificate in addictions and substance use disorders program. Focus on counseling theories and techniques used by counselors as they relate to the client and family members. ASL202: American Sign Language IV – 4 credits

Advanced American Sign Language skills including continued vocabulary. Emphasis on conversational techniques in a cross-cultural framework. Continued work on conceptual accurate signing of English idioms and words with multiple meanings. Prerequisites: A grade of C or better in ASL201 or permission of Department or Division. (ENG101 or ENG107), ASL200, and (CRE101 or equivalent as indicated by assessment) suggested but not required. Completion of prerequisites within the last three years is required.

ASM275: Forensic Anthropology – 4 credits

Survey of the role of forensic anthropologists, from the crime scene to the courtroom. Course focuses on how skeletal analysis can aid in medicolegal investigations, especially by identifying aspects of the life history of unknown individuals and by reconstructing events that took place at crime scenes. Covers both the legal aspects of forensic practice and the underlying biological basis for evidence obtained from skeletal remains. Examines applications of forensic anthropology in mass disasters, human rights investigations, and the deciphering of historic cases. Lab activities designed to illustrate techniques and principles central to the discipline. Prerequisites: None.

AVC119: Penciling for Sequential Art – 3 credits

Development of observational skills as they apply to sequential art. Emphasis on techniques that showcase how characters interact with their environment and manipulate props and cartooning anatomy. Includes techniques on composing page layouts, adapting scripts and reference gathering.
