Introduction to the theory, research and practice behind mindfulness and stress management as it relates to quality of life issues and professional self-care. Focus on maintaining a healthy lifestyle and managing personal/professional stress by incorporating evidence based research on nutrition, mindfulness, communication, positive psychology, exercise, environmental factors contributing to wellness and disease; immune system support, activity management and developing practices that facilitate maintaining living in balance. A social work response to victimology, working with the criminal justice system, evidence-based techniques in crisis intervention, and the importance of a multicultural and global perspective. Includes a therapeutic approach to topics such as sexual assault, family violence, post-traumatic stress disorder, stress management, natural disasters, effective coping skills, appropriate community resources, and the responsiveness of the justice system.
