Overview of the science of reading with an emphasis on explicit instructional practices associated with research-based systematic phonics instruction. Uses analysis of science of reading-based research to identify best practices for effectively teaching reading in the K-8 school setting, including essential components, pedagogical strategies and alignment to systematic phonics instruction. Note: EDU367 requires an approved field experience. Prerequisites: Formal acceptance to a Maricopa Community College state approved teacher preparation program or permission of Department or Division.
