CIS107: The Electronic Game Industry – 3 credits

Introduction to the electronic game industry, including history, market, distribution and publishing channels, business models, team roles, and career landscape. Technical topics covered include software engineering, artificial intelligence, game physics, computer graphics, and networking. Prerequisites: A grade of C or better in CIS105 or permission of Instructor.

    Textbook Note: Low-Textbook-Cost Class. The same textbook purchase will be used for the following courses: CIS107, CIS151, and CIS251.
    Storage Device Note: It is recommended that students have an external SSD storage device to store their course work; this device will be utilized by multiple courses within the Video Game Production program. Recommended SSD device options include: Crucial, Seagate, SanDisk Extreme, SanDisk Extreme Pro, or Samsung T Series with a minimum capacity of 1TB and read/write speeds of 1000MB/s or greater. Check with our Campus Bookstore for available options.
    Software Note: CIS107 introduces students to the Unity Game Engine and explores its role within the electronic game industry.
    Course Sequence: It is recommended that students complete CIS107 prior to enrolling into our CIS151.
    Students will be provided an Adobe Creative Cloud account tied to their MEID username for home use on PC or Mac computers (smartphone or tablet mobile devices are not supported) during the duration of this course. Students should review the minimum configuration requirements to run Adobe CC on their personal device at:
