EQS264: Equine and Stable Management II – 3 credits

Advanced practical experience in horse and stable management. Practical and supervisory experience in daily stable operations that increase skill and knowledge level in the care and management of horses. Topics include nutrition, diseases and their prevention, environmental issues parasite, pests and rodent control, safety, horse handling, wounds and their treatments, injury and treatments, inventory control, record keeping, and industry-standard operating procedures. Prerequisites: A grade of C or better in EQS162, or permission of Department or Division.

Students should expect an increased amount of work each week during the 8 weeks as compared to the same class offered in the full semester. Students are encouraged to work with an academic advisor to be sure their course load is balanced over the course of a given semester.
      First class and all subsequent classes will meet at Desert Sun Ranch (18940 E Via de Palmas, Queen Creek AZ 85142). As determined by instructor, class may occasionally meet at an alternative location to be announced.
      Students are responsible for transportation to off-site locations.
