CIS105: Survey of Computer Information Systems – 3 credits

Overview of computer technology, concepts, terminology, and the role of computers in business and society. Discussion of social and ethical issues related to computers. Use of word processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation software. Includes uses of application software and the Internet for efficient and effective problem solving. Exploration of relevant emerging technologies. Prerequisites: None.

    • Additional Notes: CIS105 is a lecture course with computers demonstrations and open lab assignments. CIS105 uses Windows-based computers to cover word processing, presentation, spreadsheet and database management software. Includes overview of computer technology, concepts, terminology, and the role of computers in business and society. Discussion of social and ethical issues related to computers and exploration of relevant emerging technologies. Knowledge or basic features of Windows and ability to type 30 WPM recommended. Students are required to use Microsoft Office 2016, 2019 or 365 software to complete assignments which can be downloaded for free. Students must be using a PC or a MAC to complete this course. Chromebooks are not supported. Internet connectivity is needed.
