Emphasis on listening and speaking skills involving survival skills. Asking and answering questions related to work, shopping, and personal safety. ESL053: Phonics – 3 credits

Designed for students who are learning English as a second language. Includes the study of the speech sounds used in English as represented by the written symbols of the alphabet; recognition of spelling patterns; resulting pronunciation; and spelling. Prerequisites: Appropriate ESL course placement score, or a grade of C or better in (ESL020, or ESL021, or ESL022, or ESL026), or permission of Instructor.
