ASD146: Peer Support Specialist – 4 credits

Introduction to the role and foundational responsibilities of a peer support specialist in the field of addictions and substance use. Explores basic pharmacology, ethics, case management, and crisis management. Recovery-Oriented Systems of Care (ROSC) is emphasized. Note: ASD146 has not been approved by any state's Department of Health Services/Department of Behavioral Services (DHS) and may not lead to certification as a Peer Support Specialist/Recovery Support Specialist by DHS. Completion of ASD146 and ASD147 may lead to certification as a National Certified Peer Recovery Support Specialist by the National Certification Commission for Addiction Professionals (NCC AP) or in Peer Recovery by the International Certification & Reciprocity Consortium (IC&RC). Prerequisites: None. Corequisites: ASD147.
