NUR158: Nurse Assisting

Introduction to the role of the nursing assistant for clients across the wellness/illness continuum within the nurse assisting scope of practice. Includes basic problem solving processes specific to meeting the basic and holistic needs of clients, therapeutic communication skills, interventions to ensure the needs and safety of the client, specific types of diseases, conditions and alterations in behavior of the client. Focus is on the special needs of the older adult client in the acute and long-term care settings, and basic care skills and procedures. Provides opportunity for the development of clinical competency in the performance of selected nurse assisting skills and procedures through participation in the care of clients. Note: NUR158 final admission requirements are determined by the Program Director and/or Division Chair and may be based on employer (partner) requirements if the student is employed by the requesting agency. NUR158 meets the application and admission requirements for MaricopaNursing programs. Prerequisites: Reading and math assessment as well as completion of all required Health and Safety documents.
