EDU221: Introduction to Education – 3 credits

Overview of the historical, political, economic, social, and philosophical factors that influence education and make it so complex. Opportunity for students to assess their interest and suitability for teaching. Prerequisites: None. Note: EDU221 requires a minimum of 30 hours of field experience in elementary or secondary classroom environment.

Prior to first day of class, student must obtain an IVP fingerprint clearance card or be currently employed by a K-12 school that requires a completed background check for employment; employment verification is required. EDU222: Introduction to the Exceptional Learner – 3 credits

Overview of the exceptional learner with emphasis on factors relating to current practices, identification, characteristics, and educational adaptations. Issues related to mild disabilities, severe disabilities, emotional and behavioral disorders, intellectual disabilities, and students who are gifted. Prerequisites: None. Note: EDU222 requires an approved field experience.
