Overview of how color is perceived and utilized in a digital environment and how to ensure consistent color from capture to final output in print or online. Investigate visual solutions utilizing electronic devices for color correction, manipulation and integrity. Prerequisites: None.

AVC138: Commercial Photography I – 3 credits

Basic techniques of lighting, camera work, and reproduction of commercial photography. Cooperation with commercial art community. Prerequisites: A grade of C or better in ART131, or AVC142, or permission of Instructor.

Fundamentals of digital photography. Includes camera operations, exposure techniques, introduction to digital output, and theory of digital photography. Prerequisites: None. Note: Digital camera required.

AVC143: Intermediate Digital Photography – 3 credits

Intermediate theory and techniques of digital photography. Aesthetic awareness and personal expression from image capture through intermediate techniques in the digital darkroom. Introduction to high-resolution digital output. Note: Semi-adjustable, high-resolution digital camera is required. Prerequisites: A grade of C or better in AVC142 or permission of Instructor.

AVC150: Multimedia Storytelling – 3 credits

Enables students to find and develop their personal stories. Emphasis on the use of digital technology to create, edit, produce and archive a multimedia story. Prerequisites: None.

Generation of two-dimensional (2D) images, designs, and media using digital and traditional methods of visual problem solving. Understanding digital and design-based techniques and workflows. Introduction to multiple elements of digital imaging. Basic foundation in photographic manipulation of images, with special attention to aesthetic foundations underlying photographic composition. AVC181: Graphic Design I – 3 credits

Basic understanding of design principles and the stages of graphic design, with an emphasis on final product and presentation. Prerequisites: A grade of C or better in AVC100 or permission of Instructor.

AVC183: Digital Graphic Arts I – 3 credits

Graphic design use in microcomputer; black and white graphics, standard and color brushes, lines, shapes, area fills and fonts. Application to illustration, advertising graphics, typography, and video interaction. A grade of C or better required in all Prerequisites. Prerequisites or Corequisites: AVC100 or permission of Instructor.

AVC204: Creative Design for Advertising – 3 credits

Focuses on the design and production of advertisement layouts and visual marketing campaigns for digital, mobile, and social channels which drive business objectives. Emphasis on terminology, analysis, and critique of advertising design, campaign methods, techniques, and the use of video across digital, mobile, and social channels.
Prerequisites: None.

AVC215: Advanced Electronic Publishing – 3 credits

Advanced use of electronic page layout techniques including in-depth styles; typography; technical documents and digital publishing interactivity. Prerequisites: A grade of C or better in AVC175.

AVC230: Visual Brand Design – 3 credits

Simulates an actual working environment which exposes students to the challenges and advantages of working in cross-functional teams. Topics include preparation for collaborative work environments, critical thinking and communication, messaging, and effectively employing marketing and design principles. Reviews logo creation and implementation, preparing online and offline collateral, creating marketing messaging and campaigns, written and oral communication, and personal presentation skills. Prerequisites: A grade of C or better in (AVC100 and MKT110) or permission of Instructor.

AVC248: Design Self Promotion – 3 credits

Defining career goals, and developing a self-promotional marketing plan to enter the workplace, including a resume, business card, leave behind, social media presence, interactive portfolio and printed portfolio. Understand business ethics and etiquette, artist's rights, copyright laws and contractual agreements, and develop networking, interview and communication skills. Prerequisites: None.

AVC290DP: Art Studio: Digital Photography – 3 credits

Practical course that draws on previous knowledge of Digital Photography. Note: AVC290DP may be repeated for credit. Prerequisites: A grade of C or better in AVC274 or permission of Instructor.
