AVC103: Typography in the Digital Age – 3 credits

Survey of the history of typography and individual designers. Emphasis on the function of typography as an integral part of effective visual communication. Study of type anatomy, mechanics, characteristics, structure, and the principles of effective selection and the relation of copy and image in graphic design. Evaluate fonts both visually and technically and learn how to manage them. Prerequisites: A grade of C or better in AVC100 or permission of Instructor.

AVC104: Cross-Media Marketing for Designers – 3 credits

Role of graphic designer in business with an emphasis on using graphic design to achieve marketing and sales objectives. Variety of communication channels explored, such as print and digital and including social media, web, and mobile media. Prerequisites: None.

AVC114: Digital Color – 3 credits

Overview of how color is perceived and utilized in a digital environment and how to ensure consistent color from capture to final output in print or online. Investigate visual solutions utilizing electronic devices for color correction, manipulation and integrity. Prerequisites: None.

AVC142: Introduction to Digital Photography – 3 credits

Fundamentals of digital photography. Includes camera operations, exposure techniques, introduction to digital output, and theory of digital photography. Prerequisites: None. Note: Digital camera required.

AVC143: Intermediate Digital Photography – 3 credits

Intermediate theory and techniques of digital photography. Aesthetic awareness and personal expression from image capture through intermediate techniques in the digital darkroom. Introduction to high-resolution digital output. Note: Semi-adjustable, high-resolution digital camera is required. Prerequisites: A grade of C or better in AVC142 or permission of Instructor.

AVC150: Multimedia Storytelling – 3 credits

Enables students to find and develop their personal stories. Emphasis on the use of digital technology to create, edit, produce and archive a multimedia story. Prerequisites: None.

AVC180AD: Designer's Tools: Adobe Illustrator – 1 credit

Introduction to the multiple elements of Adobe Illustrator, a visual art adaptation software package using the Macintosh microcomputer. Basic foundation course in the use of electronic techniques, including appropriate input and output production devices. Prerequisites: A grade of C or better in AVC100 or permission of Instructor.

AVC180AE: Designer's Tools: Adobe Photoshop – 1 credit

Introduction to the multiple elements of Photoshop software package using the microcomputer. Basic foundation in the use of electronic techniques including appropriate input and output production devices. Prerequisites: A grade of C or better in AVC100 or permission of Instructor.

AVC180AK: Designer's Tools: Adobe Premiere – 1 credit

Basic functions and use of Adobe Premiere video editing software. Applications for computer animation, multimedia, and digital video production. Prerequisites: A grade of C or better in AVC100. AVC/MMT184 is strongly recommended but not required.

AVC180AS: Designer's Tools: Adobe Indesign – 1 credit

Basic functions and operations of Adobe InDesign software. Application for graphic design, publishing, digital pre-press production and web layout. Prerequisites: A grade of C or better in AVC100 or permission of Instructor.

AVC181: Graphic Design I – 3 credits

Basic understanding of design principles and the stages of graphic design, with an emphasis on final product and presentation. Prerequisites: A grade of C or better in AVC100 or permission of Instructor.

AVC182: Graphic Design II – 3 credits

Utilizing graphic design essentials of typography, contrast and layout to develop design solutions to problems in consumer advertising, typography and structure. Prerequisites: A grade of C or better in AVC181 or permission of Instructor.

AVC190: Art of Web Site Design – 3 credits

Introduction to design production for websites. Layout, typography and presentation style for HTML (Hyper Text Markup Language). Design of mock-ups using digital design software to produce artistic form and content for the Web using Hyper Text Markup Language (HTML), digital text, and graphics. Discussion of color, proportion, typography and Web-specific design principles. Emphasizes design of cross-browser compatible interfaces that optimize usability, accessibility and browser interoperability. Prerequisites: A grade of C or better in AVC100, or permission of Instructor.

AVC249: Visual Communication Project Management and Workflow – 3 credits

Communication and coordination of digital projects from inception through completion. Emphasis on job workflow including professional communication, time management, detailed follow through and conflict resolution with stakeholders. Note: Working with Printing Industries of America and their iLearning Center, students will have the opportunity to become industry certified for the Customer Service Professional (CSP) Certification for a minimal additional cost. Prerequisites: A grade of C or better in AVC100 or permission of Instructor.

AVC290DP: Art Studio: Digital Photography – 3 credits

Practical course that draws on previous knowledge of Digital Photography. Note: AVC290DP may be repeated for credit. Prerequisites: A grade of C or better in AVC274 or permission of Instructor.

AVC291: Digital Prepress – 3 credits

Introduction to fundamental concepts of digital prepress necessary for the designer to create digital documents for accurate output and reproduction. Prerequisites: A grade of C or better in AVC100 or permission of Instructor.
