SGT165: Surgical Procedures I – 4 credits

General Surgery arena procedures. Pre-operative procedures to include patient's charts and consent forms. Common diagnostic procedures prior to surgery. Operating room admission procedures and interview, charting, and checklist. Purpose of the post anesthesia care unit (PACU). Impact of specific chronic illnesses on body functions. Issues pertaining to death and dying. Special considerations for the pediatric and geriatric patient. Prerequisites: A grade of C or better in SGT135.
