PTA200: Patient Mobility Techniques
– 4 credits
Theory, principles and practice of proper body mechanics. Principles and techniques of gait training, bed mobility and transfers, wheelchair mobility. Patient instruction, data collection, assistive devices and equipment used by the physical therapist assistants and their patients. Safety and first aid in physical therapy practice settings including contraindications for therapeutic interventions. Document physical therapy interventions. Perform physical therapy interventions in a time efficient manner following the plan of care established by the supervising physical therapist. Communicate effectively with patients and the supervising physical therapist. Prerequisites: A grade of C or better in (PTA101, PTA103, and PTA104) or permission of the Program Director.

- Notes: Students may be required to be on campus for examinations, dates/times TBD.
Online classes do not meet at specific scheduled times. Students are required to have access to a computer or mobile device, and Internet access. CANVAS is used as the learning management system. You are required to log into CANVAS on the first day of class.
Lab Class meets from 11 - 5 p.m. on the following Fridays: 10/31, 11/14 and 11/21. Class also meets from 7:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. on the following Sat. & Sun.: 11/1-11/2; 11/15-11/16; 11/22-11/23 . Class on Fridays may start in the AM to complete testing requirements for the course.
