Practical Nursing Theory and Science II (NUR180PN) 11 Credits

Holistic practical nursing concepts and theories related to care of childbearing, pediatric, adult, and geriatric clients. Role of the practical nurse collaborating with other members of the healthcare team. Concepts of health promotion and disease/illness prevention. Nursing care based upon integration of pathophysiology, nutrition, communication and physical, biological and psycho-social sciences. Information technology in performing and documenting client care. Emphasis on nursing care related to pediatric, child-bearing families, and adult clients with selected alterations in health; concepts of delegation, prioritization and management of care for the practical nurse based on the core values of the nursing program. Prerequisites: A grade of C or better in NUR160PN.

    • Class Notes: Hybrid classes incorporate multiple methods of instruction including in person and online learning. Attendance in scheduled class sessions are mandatory. Students are required to have access to a computer or mobile device, internet access, a webcam, speaker, and microphone; unless otherwise specified. Canvas is used as the learning management system.
      Due to the impact of recent events, this class has been transitioned from in-person to hybrid. Some course components will be synchronous (live online) and some aspects will be asynchronous (on your own). There will be in-person, on-campus labs, simulations, and clinical days where applicable. The course scheduled time will need to be blocked out for virtual meetings, as well as for quizzes and exams. Students are required to have access to a computer or mobile device, internet access, a webcam, speaker, and microphone. Your faculty will provide you with a schedule for in-person lab/simulation days and clinical (if available) as well as times that you will be required to be on campus or online.
