COM207: Introduction to Communication Inquiry – 3 credits

Overview of theory and methodological practice in communication with particular attention to scholarly writing skills. Emphasis on development of critical thinking skills through active participation in the research process. Note: Recommended for the communication major. Prerequisites: A grade of C or better in ENG101 or ENG107 or equivalent, and COM100 or equivalent, or permission of Instructor.

COM222: Argumentation – 3 credits

Discussion and practice of the use of evidence, applied reasoning, recognition of fallacies, selection of arguments, and methods of analyzing issues. Prerequisites: A grade of C or better in ENG101, or ENG107, or equivalent.

Interpersonal, organizational, intercultural, group, and public communication in business and professional organizations. Emphasis on oral communication and the effective use of technology and new media. Prerequisites: A grade of C or better in ENG101, or ENG107, or equivalent.

COM263: Elements of Intercultural Communication – 3 credits

Diverse cultural contexts are explored through basic concepts, principles, and theories of intercultural communication. Discovering effective interaction and appropriate communication in a global community is emphasized.
Prerequisites: None.

Designed to provide students with competence and confidence in a variety of speech situations beyond the classroom setting. May include presentations at speech competitions or at community organizations. Prerequisites: None. Note: COM281AA may be repeated for a total of six (6) credit hours.
