CHM130AA: Fundamental Chemistry with Lab – 4 credits

A survey of the fundamentals of general chemistry. Emphasis on essential concepts and problem solving techniques. Basic principles of measurement, chemical bonding, structure and reactions, nomenclature, and the chemistry of acids and bases. Preparation for students taking more advanced courses in chemistry. Designed to meet needs of students in such diverse areas as agriculture, nursing, home economics, physical education and water technology. Note: Student may receive credit for only one of the following: CHM130 and CHM130LL, or CHM130AA. Prerequisites: A grade of C or better in [(CHM100, or MAT090, or MAT091, or MAT092, or higher level mathematics course, or satisfactory math placement) and (RDG100, or RDG100LL, or higher, or eligibility for CRE101 as indicated by appropriate reading placement)], or permission of the Instructor, or Department or Division Chair.

    • Notes: CHM130AA is a combined lecture/lab course. CHM130AA is equivalent to taking CHM130 and CHM130LL. Since this is an online course the textbook, lecture and lab assignments, quizzes, and exams are done online so students will need to have Computer Internet Access and a Webcam for the computer. The required textbook and course materials are discussed in the course syllabus available the first day of class and emailed to student’s CGCC school email before the start of the semester. They can also be found in the “book information” in the class schedule.
      This lab course requires students to use a lab kit provided by the college to complete hands-on experiments at home.
