EDU239: Structured English Immersion Grades K-8 – 3 credits

A foundation course designed to prepare educators to serve the needs of English Learners (EL) grades K-8. Includes Structured English Immersion (SEI) models and the Arizona Language Development Approach with emphasis on asset based behaviors and expectations, integrated and targeted English Language Development (ELD) instruction, assessment monitoring and feedback. Also covers legal and historical foundations and current issues. Prerequisites: Baccalaureate Degree or permission of Department or Division.

EDU269: Educational Technology – 3 credits

Overview and practical application of teaching methodology integrating technology into curriculum development for teachers. Explores how emerging technologies are used to teach and learn across varied educational environments (face-to-face, hybrid, online, etc.). Includes skills focused on basic computer operations, productivity software, digital citizenship, instructional practices, information literacy and family and professional partnerships. Emphasis placed on effective use of technology in teaching and learning. Discusses current trends and related issues about technology and its impacts in P12 education. Prerequisites: Baccalaureate Degree and formal acceptance to a Maricopa Community College state approved post-baccalaureate teacher preparation program or permission of Department or Division.

EDU270: Learning And The Brain – 3 credits

Teaching and learning issues within a cognitive processes context. Covers emotion, memory, and recall as well as early brain development and its relationship to learning. Emphasis on current neuroscientific brain research and how it impacts teaching practice in preK-12 classrooms. Prerequisites: Baccalaureate Degree and formal acceptance to a Maricopa Community College state approved post-baccalaureate teacher preparation program or permission of Department or Division.

EDU272: Educational Psychology – 3 credits

Focus on the study and application of psychological principles, theories, and methodologies related to teaching and learning. Emphasis on developmental, learning, and motivational theories. Current trends also covered. Prerequisites: None.

ENG101: First-Year Composition – 3 credits

Emphasis on rhetoric and composition with a focus on expository writing and understanding writing as a process. Establishing effective college-level writing strategies through four or more writing projects comprising at least 3,000 words in total. Prerequisites: Appropriate writing placement test score, or (a grade of C or better in ENG091, or ESL097, or WAC101), or (a grade of B or better in ALT100), or (a grade of C in ALT100 and Corequisites: ENG101LL, or ENG107LL, or WAC101, or ENG100A+), or (a grade of C or better in ESL202 and Corequisites: ENG101LL, or ENG107LL, or WAC101, or ENG100A+).

Skills and techniques used in the production of marketable materials for contemporary publications that buy prose fiction, poetry, and expository articles. ENH110: Introduction to Literature – 3 credits

Introduction to international literature through various forms of literary expression; e.g., poetry, drama, essay, biography, autobiography, short story, and novel. Provides a global overview of literature with special emphasis on diverse cultural contributions of women, African Americans, Asian Americans, Hispanic Americans, and Native Americans. Prerequisites: None.

Deals with the myths and legends of civilizations with the greatest influence upon the development of the literature and culture of the English speaking people, and compares those myths with myths from other cultures. Prerequisites: None.

Introduces the interconnected nature of environmental science and solutions to environmental issues.

EQS280: Equine Science Internship – 3 credits

Equine industry work experience at faculty approved site. Focus of internship is immersion in an area of interest in or related to equine industry. Note: EQS280 requires a minimum of 250 contact hours. Students can choose to participate in EQS285 Equine Science Practicum or EQS280. Prerequisites: A grade of C or better in EQS264 or permission of Department or Division.

EXS125: Introduction to Exercise Physiology – 3 credits

Principles of exercise science applied to fitness instruction. Major factors related to the function of the human body will be examined/introduced with an emphasis on exercise physiology and functional anatomy. A grade of C or better required in all Prerequisites. Prerequisites or Corequisites: EXS101 or permission of Instructor.

EXS215: Resistance Training and Recovery Techniques – 3 credits

Fundamental methods for safe and effective instruction of resistance, functional, and athletic conditioning exercises. Application of foundational principles of physiology and kinesiology. Overview of warm-up, cooldown, and recovery techniques. A grade of C or better required in all Prerequisites. Prerequisites or Corequisites: EXS101 or permission of Instructor.

EXS217: Cardiorespiratory and Flexibility Training – 3 credits

Fundamental methods for safe and effective instruction of cardiorespiratory and flexibility training exercises. Application of foundational principles of physiology and kinesiology. A grade of C or better required in all Prerequisites. Prerequisites or Corequisites: EXS101 or permission of Instructor.

EXS270AA: Exercise Science Internship – 1 credit

A capstone experience in a fitness or health related facility. Eighty (80) hours of designated work per credit. Note: CPR certification must be current through the duration of the internship. EXS270AA may be repeated for a maximum of six (6) credits. Prerequisites: Completion of nine (9) credits of EXS courses with a grade of C or better, current CPR and AED card, and permission of Department/Division Chair and/or the Program Director.

EXS270AB: Exercise Science Internship – 2 credits

A capstone experience in a fitness or health related facility. 160 hours of designated work per credit. Note: CPR and AED certifications must be current through the duration of the internship. EXS270AB may be repeated for a maximum of six (6) credits.
