Introduction to archaeology through discoveries and the researchers who made them. Emphasis on methods of archaeological fieldwork and what these discoveries reveal about humanity, including the nature of archaeological inquiry, the development of human social groups, the changing role of religion in evolving societies, the origins of agriculture, the origins of settled life ways, the rise of cities and complex societies, political strife across different cultures and the forces which tend to fragment societies. GLG110IN: Geological Disasters and the Environment – 4 credits

Acquaints students with the use and importance of geological studies as they apply to the interactions between people and the Earth. Includes geological processes and hazards such as earthquakes, volcanoes, floods and landslides. Examines environmental impact and use of mineral and energy resources. Prerequisites: None. Note: Enrollment in both a GLG110IN lecture section and a GLG110IN laboratory section is required. Students may receive credit for only one of the following: GLG110 and GLG111 or GLG110IN.
