Overview of computer technology, concepts, terminology, and the role of computers in business and society. Discussion of social and ethical issues related to computers. Use of word processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation software. Includes uses of application software and the Internet for efficient and effective problem solving. Concepts of problem-solving, structured and object-oriented programming in Java, fundamental algorithms and techniques and computer system concepts. Social and ethical responsibilities. CSC120: Digital Design Fundamentals – 4 credits

Number systems, conversion methods, binary and complement arithmetic, Boolean switching algebra and circuit minimization techniques. Analysis and design of combinational logic, flip-flops, simple counters, registers, Read Only Memory (ROMs), Programmable Logic Device (PLDs), synchronous and asynchronous sequential circuits, and state reduction techniques.
