Precision optics and mathematical concepts. Covers basic algebraic operations, problem solving involving metric measurement, gears, pulleys, simple mechanism problems. Areas and volume calculations of geometric figures. Essentials of trigonometry for solving right and oblique triangles. Addresses geometrical optics (reflection, diffraction, imaging, thin lens formula, lens maker's equation), wave optics (interference, diffraction, polarization), and the basic principles and practical applications of lasers. Covers optical handling and positioning, light sources, laser classifications and safety.
Prerequisites: None.
