INT101: Introduction to Interior Design – 3 credits

Overview of interior design and related professions, the design process, elements and principles of design, color theory, and basic concepts of space planning and furniture layout. Development of design vocabulary relative to architectural details, furnishings, and finishes. Prerequisites: None.

INT111: Architectural Computer Aided Design I: Introduction – 3 credits

Introduction to Computer-aided drafting (CAD) for the creation of construction documents including: annotated plans, elevations, schedules and schematic section views. Dimensions, notes, and symbols to be included in the set of construction documents. Prerequisites: None. Note: Students must have working knowledge of basic computer operating systems including, but not limited to, Windows or MAC OS.

INT112: Architectural Computer Aided Design II: Plans and Elevations – 3 credits

Computer-aided drafting (CAD). Creation of a fully annotated plan, elevation, and schematic section views including dimensions, notes, symbols, and schedule, using a computer aided drafting software such as AutoCAD. Includes an introduction to three-dimensional (3D) CAD using SketchUp and Building Information (BIM) software such as Revit. Note: Students must have working knowledge of basic computer operating systems including, but not limited to, Windows or MAC OS. Prerequisites: A grade of C or better in ARC/INT111. Completion of prerequisites within the last three years is required unless current work experience to override this time constraint is approved with permission of Instructor.

INT115: Historical Architecture and Furniture – 3 credits

Historical survey of the development of architecture, interiors, furniture, and decorative arts from antiquity to the Industrial Revolution. Prerequisites: None.

INT120: Modern Architecture and Furniture – 3 credits

Survey of the development of architecture, interiors, furniture, and decorative arts from the Industrial Revolution to the present. Emphasis is on modern architects and designers. Prerequisites: None.

INT122: Digital Visualization for Design – 3 credits

Introduction to the utilization of leading interior design industry software such as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign for digital rendering and the development of interior design drawings and presentations. Prerequisites: None.

INT145: Drawing and Rendering Studio – 3 credits

Development of basic freehand sketching and perspective rendering skills. Explores drawing styles and techniques through quick sketching and the use of digital tools to create presentation drawings as used in the professional interior design industry. A grade of C or better required in all Prerequisites. Prerequisites: INT101. Prerequisites or Corequisites: INT122.

INT156: Furniture Upholstery I – 3 credits

Instruction in furniture upholstery techniques, including webbing, springing, stuffing, trimming, sewing, and cushion making, applied to approved student-selected projects. Prerequisites: None. Note: INT156 may be repeated for a total of nine (9) credit hours. Students must provide the furniture piece.

INT157: Furniture Upholstery II – 3 credits

The application of modern materials and tools in upholstery, with emphasis on button tufting, channel construction, and specialized trim techniques. Note: INT157 may be repeated for a total of (9) credit hours. Students must provide the furniture piece. Prerequisites: A grade of C or better in INT156 or permission of Department or Division.

INT158: Furniture Upholstery III – 3 credits

Advanced upholstery techniques for furniture and other needle-trade items, including efficient layout methods, fabric cutting, and sewing strategies to optimize time and cost. Prerequisites: A grade of C or better in INT157 or permission of Department or Division.

INT159: Furniture Upholstery IV – 3 credits

Advanced furniture upholstery techniques for students pursuing the upholstery trade, including modern methods for sewing, stuffing, finishing, job estimating, and equipment selection and maintenance. Note: INT159 may be repeated for credit. Students must provide the furniture piece. Prerequisites: A grade of C or better in INT158.

INT160: Fabrics for Interiors – 3 credits

Study of the properties, design, and performance characteristics of interior fabrics. Psychological and cultural impact of textiles on the built environment. Role of the interior designer in working with textiles. Introduction to regulations and codes within the textile industry. Prerequisites: None.

INT165: Space Planning Studio – 3 credits

Study of creative, critical, analytical, and strategic thinking as it relates to human behavior and the built environment. Emphasis on design process, and functional application. Considerations for space utilization including anthropometrics and ergonomics. Development of presentation skills. A grade of C or better required in all Prerequisites. Prerequisites: INT101, INT122, and ARC/INT111. Prerequisites or Corequisites: INT145 and ARC/INT112.

INT201: Color and Design Communication Studio – 3 credits

The application of color theory to professional interior design projects. Emphasis on utilizing leading industry software for the development and delivery of presentations as used in the professional interior design industry. Prerequisites: A grade of C or better in INT101, INT122, INT145, and INT165.

INT205: Custom Design Studio – 3 credits

The development of custom interior design furnishings, millwork, and architectural features. Exposure to the process of manufacturing custom design elements. Emphasis on the visualization of concepts through sketching and the use of digital tools to create shop drawings, renderings, and specifications. Refinement of presentation skills. Prerequisites: A grade of C or better in ARC/INT111, INT101, INT122, and INT145.

INT210: Interior Materials Studio – 3 credits

Exploration of interior finishes, including their properties, performance, maintenance, sustainability, and general characteristics. Emphasis on appropriate material selection and specification. The utilization of digital tools to create specification documents as used in the professional interior design industry. Refinement of presentation skills. A grade of C or better in all Prerequisites. Prerequisites: ARC/INT111 and INT122. Prerequisites or Corequisites: ARC/INT112.

INT212: Kitchen and Bath Studio – 3 credits

Exploration into the specific requirements associated with kitchen and bath design and their practical application. Emphasis on the design process and functional application utilizing professional interior design digital tools. Refinement of presentation skills. A grade of C or better required in all Prerequisites. Prerequisites: INT101, INT122, INT145, INT165, and ARC/INT112. Prerequisites or Corequisites: INT210.

INT222: Residential Design Studio – 3 credits

The use of the design process to create design solutions for a residential remodel. Functional and aesthetic analysis of interior components. Includes kitchen and bath design; residential furnishings, fixtures, and equipment (FF&E); and environmental considerations. Advanced application of professional interior design digital tools. Refinement of presentation skills. A grade of C or better required in all Prerequisites. Prerequisites: INT165 and INT210. Prerequisites or Corequisites: INT212.

INT242: Interior Design Professional Practices – 3 credits

Examination of marketing, business processes, and ethical issues in the interior design industry. Create materials for use in the profession including a portfolio, resume, and online presence. Exposure to industry professionals and procedures. Prerequisites: A grade of C or better in INT212.

INT251: SketchUp - Introduction – 3 credits

Provides students with introductory level instruction utilizing Sketchup rendering software for school and workplace applications. Addresses basic drawing/rendering commands, accessing external drawing files, and plotting through the creation of both three-dimensional schematic and rendered interior and exterior building views.
Prerequisites: None. Previous CAD experience recommended but not required.

INT260: Interior Codes and Regulations – 3 credits

Study of interior building codes, regulations, and standards and their impact on the health, safety, and welfare of the public. Emphasis on occupancy classifications, means of egress, fire protection, finish/furniture standards and testing, and Americans with Disabilities Act Accessibility Guidelines (ADAAG). This course is an exploration of codes and regulations as it pertains to the application of interior design projects. A grade of C or better required in all Prerequisites. Prerequisites or Corequisites: INT140 or ARC141 or permission of Program Director.
