EMT104: Emergency Medical Technology – 10 credits

Designed as the Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) lecture to prepare students for scope of practice and standard of care with comprehensive assessment, diagnostic technology, patient advocacy, ethical and professional behaviors, critical thinking, decision-making, and patient management of medical and trauma emergencies and non-emergencies. Note: Students must meet National Registry of EMT requirements for certification. Additional information available at nremt.org. EMT104 may be repeated for credit. Prerequisites: (A grade of C or better in EMT101, or current validation in Basic Life Support Health Care Provider/Professional Rescuer) and (Accuplacer: 74 or higher, or Next Gen Accuplacer 249 or higher, or Asset 42 or higher, or Compass 83 or higher, or EDReady Critical Reading & Thinking 90 or higher, OR High School GPA 3.0 or higher, or Associate’s Degree or higher). EMT104LL: Emergency Medical Technology Practicum – 2 credits

Laboratory-based course provides structured, hands-on practice of EMT skills in a controlled learning environment. Students apply standards of care, patient assessment techniques, and evidence-based procedures through simulated medical and trauma emergencies using manikins and training devices. Emphasis is placed on decision-making, patient advocacy, and professional behaviors with immediate instructor feedback. The course follows national and state curricula to ensure skill development prior to clinical or practicum experience. Note: EMT104LL may be repeated for credit. Students must meet National Registry of EMT requirements for certification.
