The chronological study of music theory including: harmony, melody, texture, structure and timbre through analysis, original compositions and basic exercises to demonstrate musical concepts. Prerequisites: A grade of C or better in MTC100, or MTC101, or permission of Instructor. Corequisites: MTC106.

    • Class Notes: Live Online Classes have live online sessions that meet on specific days and times. Attendance in these live online sessions is mandatory. Additional online work that is not synchronous may also be included during the duration the classes are offered and have set due dates for assignments. Students are required to have access to a computer or mobile device, and Internet access, unless otherwise specified.
      This course requires the use of a computer or mobile device with internet access and speakers.
    • Additional Class Notes: Students should be able to read music and know basic music theory before signing up for MTC105. There will be a placement test on the 1st day of class which will include: note naming, major and minor scales, key signatures and chords. There will also be a melodic dictation.
