Explores the basics of humor in film by tracing its roots through a historical examination of a variety of arts, artists, and theorists. Focuses on films' unique contributions to the world of laughter. Investigates how comedy, and film comedy in particular, provides an essential and unifying force for culture and society.     • Class Notes: This class meets for an 8-week period during the full length semester. Students should expect an increased amount of work each week during the 8 weeks as compared to the same class offered in the full semester. Students are encouraged to work with an academic advisor to be sure their course load is balanced over the course of a given semester.
      ONLINE CLASS. All classwork can be completed entirely online.
      There will be video projects in this class, which will require you to record, edit, and upload videos online for course credit. There is no textbook for the class (the instructor will provide internet links to the readings in Canvas) however students will be required to sign up and pay for a monthly streaming subscription; more information on the streaming service, cost, and length of time needed will be available in the online classroom.
      All textbook and course materials available at no or low cost (<$40) - may include OER (Open Educational Resources).
      This course requires the use of a computer or mobile device with internet access, a webcam, speakers and microphone.
