Securities industry knowledge and skills for individuals to prepare for careers in Financial Services. Includes capital markets, types of products and their risks, trading, customer accounts, prohibited activities, and regulatory agencies and their functions. Helps to prepare students for the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) Securities Industry Essentials (SIE) Examination required for entry-level positions in the security industry.
Prerequisites: None. Corequisites: Concurrent enrollment in GBS261LL recommended but not required. Securities Industry Essentials (SIE) Exam Prep (GBS261LL) 1 Credit

Helps to prepare students for the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) Securities Industry Essentials (SIE) Examination required for prospective securities industry professionals. Focuses on reviewing key concepts, practicing skills, and preparing to successfully demonstrate existing knowledge on the SIE certification exam. The course is designed to provide an overview of exam topics and study and test-taking strategies. It also will include structured study time, group discussions, and the use of practice exams to assess test readiness.
Prerequisites: None. Corequisites: Concurrent enrollment in GBS261 recommended but not required. Note: GBS261 is recommended for students who are not already employed in the financial services industry and need more in-depth content related to the SIE exam.

    • Class Notes: GBS261LL-39978 prepares students for the FINRA's Securities Industry Essentials (SIE) exam. Students who do not enroll in GBS261-39977 should come to class already having reviewed the SIE material, using a test prep book. Students take and must pass the SIE exam to pass this class. The national exam is taken through FINRA/Prometric at an additional cost of $60, paid by the student.
