EQS162: Equine and Stable Management I – 3 credits

Focus on daily stable operations in the care and management of horses. Practical experience in basic horse husbandry, horsemanship, and stable management. Development of ground handling skills and use of lunge line and round penning techniques. Topics include feeding, watering, stable sanitation, grooming, bathing, vaccines, parasite control, safety, horse behavior, health, wounds and their treatments, and record keeping. Prerequisites: A grade of C or better in EQS105 or permission of Department or Division.

  • This class meets for an 8-week period during the full length semester. Students should expect an increased amount of work each week during the 8 weeks as compared to the same class offered in the full semester.
