Photography I (ART131) 3 Credits

Basic photographic principles and techniques. Basic camera functions and controls. Experience in the image-making process by creating and editing photographs for various display environments. Introduction to the photographic aesthetic and photography's role in society. Prerequisites: None. Note: Camera required.

    • Class Notes: HYBRID CLASS. Blends classroom and online instruction/activities resulting in fewer in-person class meetings. Designed for highly motivated, self-directed, computer-literate students.
      Extended lab/class time 11am-3pm
      Class 20325 costs include ART Course Fee: $40
    • Additional Class Notes: Requires a 35mm manual SLR film camera. Cameras are available to check out for the term. For questions regarding camera requirements or specifications, contact instructor.
      This is a traditional wet darkroom course, hand developing film and making gelatin silver prints is the basis for the semester.
      Requires additional $150.00 or more, out-of-pocket expense.
      Time management is essential for success.
      Requires additional time to create assignments and work in the darkroom beyond studio class time. Requires additional 120 minutes of lab time each week and Instructor will provide details the first day of class.

      This class meets for an 8-week period during the full length semester. Students should expect an increased amount of work each week during the 8 weeks as compared to the same class offered in the full semester. Students are encouraged to work with an academic advisor to be sure their course load is balanced over the course of a given semester.
