AIM111: Introduction to Data Science – 3 credits

Introduction to the basics of data science, including data handling, problem framing in a data-centric context, the foundational techniques of exploratory data analysis (EDA), data visualization, and data ethics. Students will gain practical experience in using various data science libraries and tools through hands-on exercises and projects. Prerequisites: A grade of C or better in (CSC101 and AIM100) or permission of Program Director.

      Hybrid classes combine a reduced amount of scheduled classroom time with required out-of-class learning activities, typically conducted online.
      This course will be taught with multiple attendance options.
      For each scheduled meeting of this class, students have the option of attending in the classroom or participating online, or a combination of both. Students can change their mode of participation weekly or by topic, according to need or preference. The online portion of this class requires the use of a computer or mobile device with internet access, a webcam, speakers, and a microphone.
      This course may require one or more in-person proctored test(s) on date(s) listed in the syllabus. There may be an additional cost associated with taking the exam in-person off the campus where the class is offered.

      CSC101 is a prerequisite being offered for the first time this semester alongside AIM111. Students who have completed CIS156 or an introductory Python course should email Habib Matar at habib.matar@cgc.edu for an override into AIM111.
