NUR158: Nurse Assisting – 4.5 credits

Introduction to the role of the nursing assistant for clients across the wellness/illness continuum within the nurse assisting scope of practice. Includes basic problem solving processes specific to meeting the basic and holistic needs of clients, therapeutic communication skills, interventions to ensure the needs and safety of the client, specific types of diseases, conditions and alterations in behavior of the client.       Experience top rope rock climbing in the local Phoenix mountains during two full day sessions. This class will include instruction on safety, belaying and climbing techniques. The course will be conducted outside on real rock, and students will have ample time to practice their skills. This course is for beginners and intermediate climbers. A basic level of fitness is required, and students must have reliable transportation to meet at offsite locations. The course fee of $20 (due at registration) covers costs for all rock-climbing equipment (harness, helmet, climbing shoes).

THO130AG: Specialized Stage Combat: Quarterstaff – 1.5 credits

Teaches fundamental techniques and terminology of staged combat utilizing the quarterstaff as required for professional certification by the Society of American Fight Directors (SAFD). Includes the analysis and performance of safely choreographed violence that tells a story for stage and screen. Prepares students for the SAFD skills proficiency test in the use of the quarterstaff in stage combat. Prerequisites: None.
