    • Class Notes: Astronomy Research Seminar: Students will form research groups to observe a binary star system and write up their observation for publication in the Journal of Double Star Observations. Students will learn about the process of conducting and presenting original research. Students will be organized into research groups based on their schedules. Research groups will meet a minimum of twice per week. Attendance at the PVCC Mancini Science Symposium on May 10th, 2018 is also required. All students interested in STEAM are encouraged to consider taking this course. No previous astronomy knowledge is required.
      OER materials are required for this course and textbook information will be provided by the instructor.

Emergency Medical Technology (EMT104) 9 Credits

Techniques of emergency medical care in accordance with national and state curriculum. Study of the human body, patient assessment, treatment of medically or traumatically compromised patients, special hazards, and medical operations, IV monitoring, patient-assisted medication administration, automated external defibrillators (AEDs), and blood-glucose monitoring.       The multimedia ensemble is a new STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) ensemble at PVCC. Our first project for the semester will be to augment a video game experience by creating live music and media to a live video game. Should you sign up for this course, you have the opportunity to determine the direction of future projects as the remaining projects will be co-constructed by the ensemble members. All creative individuals, with any level of experience or abilities, are invited to collaborate in this new experience offered at PVCC. If you can create music, write a program, design media, express yourself through dance, frag a n00b, build your own device, or think outside the box, this ensemble is for you.

Practical and performance experience in various percussion styles. Percussion literature from a diverse number of world musical traditions. Western European art music, various African traditions, Indian music, Japanese music, Indonesian music, Mexican, Central, and South American music, and percussion compositions from the American Experimental Tradition rehearsed and performed. Minimizing Workplace Stress (WED105) 0.5 Credits

Introduction of the application of Practical Relaxation Techniques for reducing workplace stress. Defines the characteristics, process and signs of workplace stress. Includes discussions of the physiology of stress and how these responses impact daily living. Use of the biofeedback instruments to monitor the relaxation techniques such as self-hypnosis, visualization, guided imagery, and meditation. Prerequisites: None.

Focuses on the use of physical objects and mental images as the focal point for meditation. Focuses on the standing and sitting meditation of the Egyptian and West African traditions and the pantheon of images used to represent life's day-to-day processes.
