    • Class Notes: Camping and Rafting near Moab, Utah on the Colorado River.
      Five days and four nights of camping along the Colorado River. The class will do a 3 day rafting trip down Cataract Canyon (class 4 and 5 rapids). The fees will cover the professional rafting trip, entrance fee into Arches National Park, campground fees, and transportation. Students will be responsible for own camping equipment and food. Side hiking for a total of 10-20 miles in both Arches National parks and Cataract Canyon. First class meeting on June 29, 2016 at 7:30pm is required or you will be dropped from the class. Field trip dates July 6-10, 2016. The $465 class fee will be non refundable after June 1, 2016. Class fee covers the river trip and camping 2 nights before and after raft trip.       Mogollon Rim Camping and Canoeing
      The Chevelon Canyon Lake or Blue Ridge Reservoir is located between Heber and Camp Verdi. Enjoy two nights of camping in the Pines by the lake under a full moon. The class will be loading equipment into canoes and canoeing across the lake to the campground. Class will also include instructions on how to paddle a canoe and a guided tour around the lake. Students must be able to swim 50 yards un-assisted. Special fee covers canoe and PFD rental and trained adventure guide. Students are required to provide their own food and camping equipment. First class meeting is July 28, 7:30pm-8:30pm at the Pool. Contact instructor at rachel.gardner@gccaz.edu. Trip dates are August 4-6.

    • Additional Class Notes: This special section of advanced diving will be conducted in French Polynesia and will provide special training in fish identification and research with use of SCUBA (Self-Contained Underwater Breathing Apparatus). We will make at least four open water dives for students to develop the floating skills: fish identification, fish population/community estimates, fish behavior and recording methods. Upon completion students will receive Fish Identification and Research Specialty certifications from PADI. Dive dates:July 24 and 25. Prerequisite: PED101SU of equivalent Open Water SCUBA certification. Students must bring completed health form to first class meeting (may require doctor's signature; form available in FW-04). Course is offered in conjunction with BIO1489AL, Field Experiences: Coral Reef Ecology. Introductory meeting: Saturday, July 16, 6:00pm in LS327.
