      This two day, one night wilderness adventure is a "hands on" introduction to basic primitive living skills and wilderness survival. Students will learn about friction fire making, wild edible plants, primitive tool making, shelter building and primitive cooking. Beginning backpacking and hiking skills are recommended, but not required. Students are responsible for their own gear and food; details will be given at the first class meeting.       Camping while canoeing the Colorado River through Black Canyon below the Hoover Dam. Class will include two nights camping, canoeing 12 miles in two days, side hiking, enjoying hot springs and relaxing. Conditioning with rowing is recommended. Class leaves at 12:00pm on Thursday, October 29th and returns to GCC at 9:00pm on Saturday, October 31st. Class fee of $95 will cover canoe rental, shuttle to trailhead, permit to enter national park, and transportation. $17 of the class fee is non-refundable at September 1, 2015.       This hiking class is for enthusiasts who want to hike from the South Rim to the North Rim of the Grand canyon (22 miles) in one day. This is very physically demanding and requires a conditioning period. Students registering for this class are highly recommended to also register for a Conditioning class, PED103HK 19329. Along with the conditioning class the student must also qualify in order to participate in this hiking class. First class meeting is Thursday, September 24th at 7:30pm-9:00pm in P2.       CONDITIONING FOR GRAND CANYON RIM TO RIM OR PLEASURE HIKING
      Class 19329 is highly recommended for students to prepare for the Grand Canyon Rim to Rim hike (PED102HK 19354). Students can also take this class for the pure enjoyment of local hiking adventures. Hike times are 6:00am-12:00pm for Cave Creek, Go John trail on August 29, North Mountain/Shaw Butte loop on September 5, White Tanks, Ford Canyon on September 12, McDowell Mountain, Tom's Thumb on September 19 and Seven Springs/Skunk Tank trail on September 26. First class meeting is Thursday, August 27 at 7:30pm-8:30pm in room P-2. For class information email instructor at rachel.gardner@gccaz.edu. Students are required to provide own transportation.
