Emergency Medical Technology (EMT104) 9 Credits

Techniques of emergency medical care in accordance with national and state curriculum. Study of the human body, patient assessment, treatment of medically or traumatically compromised patients, special hazards, and medical operations, IV monitoring, patient-assisted medication administration, automated external defibrillators (AEDs), and blood-glucose monitoring. Note: EMT104 Students are required to complete additional hours in a competency-based clinical, vehicular, and/or scenario based experience. This may be completed through EMT104AB or program director-approved rotation. Students must meet National Registry of EMTs requirements for certification. Prerequisites: EMT101 or current validation in BLS Health Care Provider/Professional Rescuer & (appropriate Reading placement test score to demonstrate min 10th grade level reading or completed Associates degree or higher from accredited institution).

Students are required to provide a copy of an approved Healthcare Provider level CPR card on the first day of class. Concurrent enrollment in EMT104AB is recommended. Students not registered in EMT104AB may have additional immunization, background check and drug screen requirements. Students must meet reading proficiency requirements prior to registration in EMT104. In addition to regularly scheduled class meetings, students are required to attend several flex-schedule lab sessions. Lab sessions are available Monday through Saturday.
