Equine Lameness (EQS275) 4 Credits

A continuing study of equine skeletal anatomy with emphasis on the normal function of front and hind legs and the hoof. Covers methods of evaluating various deviations that present as lameness in horses; how conformation, gait, and lameness relate to performance, physical and behavior issues; the protocol of equine gait assessments on actual horses; and how to diagram the footfalls of the horse. Topics include the body's response to injury, forms of therapy, types of conditioning, and rehabilitative techniques for returning horses to usefulness and performance. Prerequisites: A grade of C or better in (EQS105, EQS120, and EQS250) or permission of Department or Division.

      Live Online Classes have live online sessions that meet on specific days and times. Attendance in these live online sessions is mandatory. Additional online work that is not synchronous may also be included during the duration the classes are offered and have set due dates for assignments. Students are required to have access to a computer or mobile device, and Internet access, unless otherwise specified. If the COVID19 situation changes, there is a possibility the course could meet in-person at the scheduled days and times.
      This course requires the use of a computer or mobile device with internet access, a webcam, speakers and microphone.
    • Additional Class Notes: First class and all subsequent Mondays will meet LIVE ONLINE. Each Wednesday through 10/14/20 you will meet at Cherry Hill Stables (21632 S. 140th St., Chandler AZ 85286). As determined by instructor, class may occasionally meet at an alternative location to be announced. Students are responsible for transportation to off-site class sessions.
