    • Class Notes: First orientation class is Wednesday, May 2, 7-8pm, at SCC in PE137. This is a onetime orientation meeting. Date of the trip is May 5-6. Introduction to Canyoneering is the exploration of a beautiful slot canyon complete with waterfalls and swimming holes. Students will have the opportunity to experience several top-roped rappels. Participants will learn basic canyoneering skills and spend one night camping at a campground. Canyoneering equipment (harness and helmet) transportation and dinner/breakfast are provided. Class is graded on attendance, not physical performance. This course is for both beginners and intermediate canyoneers. Basic level of fitness and ability to swim is required.       LEAVE NO TRACE TRAINER AT GRAND CANYON NATIONAL PARK. Participants who successfully complete this course will become Leave No Trace Trainers and receive a completion certificate through the LNT Center. This course is taught by certified LNT Master Educators. Participants will spend 3 days and 2 nights backpacking down/up to Phantom Ranch at the bottom of the Grand Canyon. This course is hands-on, held in the outdoors with overnight tent-style hiking/backpacking. Basic level of fitness and backpacking is required. Mandatory one-time orientation meets Mon., 4/30, from 7-8 pm in PE137. Trip dates: Fri., 5/11-Sun., 5/13. Trip meets and departs from SCC. A travel/activity fee of $45 is due at registration, with no travel/activity cost refunds after 4/30. This fee covers transportation and some food.
